According to the report in HaberAydın, Savaş responded to the citizen who wanted to talk about the poor state of the economy by saying, "We have a heavenly homeland where we can wake up in peace when we lay our heads on the pillow at night. Let's appreciate this." One of the people accompanying Savaş remarked, "What is a poor person doing in a coffeehouse, anyway?"

The dialogue between the AKP's Aydın Metropolitan Municipality candidate Mustafa Savaş and a pensioner during his Kuşadası program has drawn backlash.

When Savaş visited the Kuşadası Hunters' Club coffeehouse, a citizen said, "The pensioner is hungry, I receive a monthly pension of 7500 liras." Savaş replied, "We have a heavenly homeland where we can wake up in peace when we lay our heads on the pillow at night. Let's appreciate this."

The pensioner, whose name was not learned, replied, "We know the value of the homeland, you should know it." Mustafa Savaş and his entourage then quickly left the premises.
