Ali Mahir Başarır to Mehmet Şimşek: Şimşek must apologize to the public

CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır, at a press conference held at the TBMM,criticized the postponement of the legislative proposal that would have imposed a 750-lira participation fee on credit cards with a limit of 100,000 lira or more to generate revenue for the defense industry support fund, and also addressed companies that do not pay taxes.

Başarır made the following statement regarding the postponement of the legislative proposal:

WERE THOSE WHO WITHDREW THIS LEGISLATIVE PROPOSAL TRAITORS?

"Mehmet Şimşek and the current government wanted to collect a 750-lira tax from citizens' unborn debts under the pretext of the defense industry. Millions of people reacted to this situation, and these reactions were labeled as 'enemies of the homeland.' BBP Chairman Destici declared those who opposed this tax as 'traitors.' Now, this proposal has been withdrawn. Were those who withdrew it also traitors?" he said.

YOU ARE GIVING 25 BILLION LIRA OF PUBLIC MONEY TO CARTELS

Stating that the e-commerce law is being debated in Parliament, Başarır emphasized that the 25 billion lira license fee that should have been collected from large cartel companies was reduced to 2 billion lira, stating, "Why are you making this discount? You are handing over 25 billion lira of public money to cartels."

TAX DEBTS OF LARGE COMPANIES ON THE AGENDA

Istanbul AirportEmphasizing that the Cengiz-Kalyon partnership, which operates the airport, does not pay taxes, Başarır spoke on the matter as follows: "The company, which was supposed to pay a total of 4 billion euros in rent in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024, did not pay this debt. Mehmet Şimşek, is this ethical? Will taxes be collected from citizens while companies like Cengiz Construction and Kalyon are not taxed?" he said.

BAŞARIR'S REACTION TO TAXES

Başarır, "Credit card debts have exceeded 4 trillion liras. Are you going to collect taxes from 85 million people, or from the companies that receive 21/b no-bid contracts? There is a major problem in Turkey's tax system. Companies that put millions of liras into their coffers do not pay taxes" he said, expressing his reaction.

Stating that the government should question its tax ethics, Başarır said, "When the uncollected taxes are gathered, we can solve the problems of retirees and fix the economy. When society seeks its rights, these freak laws are withdrawn. 85 million people won."

ÖZEL'S VISIT TO DEMİRTAŞ

In response to a question regarding the CHP's 'solution process' and Özgür Özel's visit to Selahattin Demirtaş, Başarır replied, "We have always defended peace and brotherhood in this country. We want the rule of law to be applied equally for everyone."

'ERDOĞAN DID NOT ASK THE PUBLIC, HE ASKED THE BANK BOSSES'

Regarding allegations that the 750 lira participation fee proposal for the defense industry fund was withdrawn due to lobbying activities by banks, Başarır said, "Erdoğan did not ask the citizens when introducing this tax; he asked the bank bosses. Under the AKP government, whether the citizens will be harmed is not taken into account."

Criticizing Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek'sstatements regarding the defense industry fund, Başarır said, "Şimşek should apologize for occupying the public with an unnecessary agenda. He should say 'We should not have done it' and state that they will not take such steps again."
