Armed attack on a young man in Istanbul
An 18-year-old walking down the street in Kağıthane was subjected to an armed attack by helmeted assailants on a motorcycle.

The incident occurred around 14:15 on Ferman Street in the Hamidiye neighborhood of Kağıthane. According to allegations, 18-year-old Umut Karçığa, who had left his home in the afternoon, began walking down the street. At that moment, two helmeted assailants on a motorcycle pulled up in front of the young man and opened fire. Karçığa, who was struck in the head by a single bullet, collapsed to the ground, while the assailants fled by turning from the main street into a side street. The moment of the attack was captured on camera.
SHOT IN THE HEAD
Following the incident, health and police teams were dispatched to the scene upon reports from nearby citizens. The medical teams, who arrived at the scene in a short time, provided initial intervention to the critically injured young man, who was left covered in blood on the ground, before transporting him to a private hospital in Sarıyer for treatment. It was learned that the young man, who was taken into surgery, is in life-threatening condition and remains in serious condition.
"THE PERSON SITTING IN THE BACK PULLED OUT HIS GUN AND SHOT"
Speaking about the incident, Mustafa Çam said, "First I heard the gunshots. When I looked up, I saw two people on a motorcycle. The person sitting in the back pulled out his gun and shot the boy. Then they immediately started fleeing upwards with their motorcycle. The boy remained on the ground in blood where he was. First the police teams arrived, then the ambulances. They provided the first intervention to the boy on the ground and took him to the hospital. We heard that the boy had died," he said.
An elderly man stated, "I heard that three shots were fired. When we went outside, they said a young boy had been shot. Then the police and ambulances came and took the boy. I have no information about whether he died or not," he said.
POLICE SEARCHING FOR ASSAILANTS
Meanwhile, police teams, who launched an investigation into the incident, took statements from eyewitnesses and began reviewing security camera footage. During the investigation, 2 shell casings found on the ground were placed in evidence bags by the crime scene investigation teams and taken away. It was learned that efforts to capture the assailants are ongoing. It was also learned that Umut Karçığa, who was attacked, had an outstanding warrant for "negligent injury." Police teams are continuing their work on the incident.
