The dry cargo ship named Ayiş, which ran aground and sank off the coast of Maltepe due to a southwesterly storm in previous years, has begun to be dismantled for recycling following a legal process that lasted approximately 2 years. The tender was concluded for 2 million TL, and the winning company undertook the ship's dismantling operations. The ship's parts are being cut and removed underwater with the help of divers. The dismantling operations were captured from the air.
It was learned that the dismantled ship materials will be transported to Karabük to be recycled and utilized in steel production. Once the work is completed, it is expected that the dangers posed by the ship's sunken state will be eliminated and a safer, more aesthetic area will be created along the coastline.
