Breaking News: A 'White Toros' Set on Fire in Front of the Grand National Assembly! First Statement from Police

A white Toros-brand vehicle suddenly caught fire near the Grand National Assembly ahead of a reconciliation commission meeting; 1 person was taken into custody in connection with the incident.

The Brotherhood and Democracy Commission, established in the Grand National Assembly as part of the ruling party's new reconciliation process — which it has named "Turkey Without Terror" — is set to hold its fourth meeting today.

Ahead of the commission meeting, a white Toros-brand vehicle began burning for reasons yet to be determined, in an area near the Çankaya entrance of the Grand National Assembly.

According to NTV Parliamentary Correspondent Uğraş Bingöl, firefighting teams that arrived at the scene brought the fire under control, while security forces detained one person believed to be connected to the incident.

FOOTAGE OF THE PERPETRATOR EMERGES

In new footage shared by NTV correspondent Uğraş Bingöl, the individual who set the vehicle on fire was seen saying, "I want God's justice."

Footage of the detained individual has also emerged.

STATEMENT FROM ANKARA POLICE HEADQUARTERS

Following the incident, the Ankara Police Headquarters issued a written statement.

"It has been determined that the vehicle fire that occurred on İnönü Boulevard in the Çankaya district of our province on 19.08.2025 was carried out by an individual identified as M.E.F., a resident of Mersin province who has been found to have psychological disorders and numerous criminal records. The individual has been taken into custody and an investigation into the incident has been launched.
