An armed attack on a police station in the Balçova district of İzmir has left 2 police officers martyred and 6 people injured. Footage has emerged showing the moments the 16-year-old attacker was neutralized.

An attack was carried out this morning on the Salih İşgören Police Station located in the Balçova district.
As a result of the attack, a 1st-class police chief and 1 police officer were martyred, and 6 people were injured.
It was stated that the attacker was 16 years old and carried out the attack with a pump-action shotgun. The attacker has been taken into custody.
STATEMENT FROM INTERIOR MINISTER YERLİKAYA
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya made a statement regarding the attack. In his statement, Yerlikaya said:
"An armed attack has been carried out against the İzmir Balçova Salih İşgören Police Station.
Following this heinous attack, unfortunately, our 1st-Class Police Chief and Police Chief Inspector Muhsin Aydemir and our Police Officer Hasan Akın have been martyred, while our Police Officer Ömer Amilağ has been seriously injured and our Police Officer Murat Dağlı has been slightly injured.
I pray for God's mercy upon our heroic martyrs and wish a speedy recovery to our injured. The suspect of the incident, E.B. (16), has been apprehended. An investigation into the incident has been launched.
The public will be informed of developments."
YILMAZ TUNÇ: INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED
Minister of Justice Tunç stated that an investigation has been launched into the armed attack on the police station in İzmir and that 2 deputy chief public prosecutors and 6 public prosecutors have been assigned to the case.
"I condemn the armed attack on the Salih İşgören Police Station in the Balçova district of İzmir. I pray for God's mercy upon our police officers who were martyred in the attack and wish a speedy recovery to our injured. A judicial investigation has been immediately launched by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the incident, and 2 deputy chief public prosecutors and 6 public prosecutors have been assigned. The investigation is being conducted in a multi-faceted and meticulous manner in all its dimensions."
ISIS ALLEGATION
An ISIS allegation has surfaced regarding the armed attack in İzmir that left two police officers martyred.
According to a report by Alican Uludağ from NOW TV, it is alleged that the 16-year-old E.B., who carried out the attack, was a member of ISIS.
It was also claimed that the attacker shared a statement by the killed so-called leader of ISIS, al-Baghdadi, saying, "Turkey is now a target for operations."
No official statement has been made on the matter yet.
İZMİR GOVERNOR: ATTACKER IS A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT, SHOTGUN BELONGS TO HIS FATHER
İzmir Governor Süleyman Elban announced that the attacker resided on the same street, the pump-action shotgun used belonged to his father, and the attacker was captured while injured. It was also stated that the attacker had no prior criminal record. Governor Elban stated, "We are investigating the incident from multiple angles. We will provide detailed information once we have clarified everything."
5 PEOPLE IN CUSTODY INCLUDING THE ATTACKER
Detentions began following the incident. In a statement from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was said, "Regarding the armed attack on the Balçova Salih İşgören Police Station, in which two of our police officers were martyred, our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has immediately initiated investigation procedures, and a total of 5 people, including the suspect who carried out the attack, have been taken into custody."

The statement from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office also included the following:
"Upon the request of our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the İzmir 5th Criminal Court of Peace has decided to impose a publication ban on all types of media, including visual, written, and internet-based media, regarding the armed attack incident. The investigation is being conducted in a multi-faceted and meticulous manner."
