A landslide has occurred in the Canik district of Samsun.
According to the information obtained, soil and giant rock fragments broke off from the mountain and fell onto the car wash area of a gas station located next to a shopping center on the Samsun-Ordu highway.
According to initial assessments, it was determined that some people were trapped under the soil during the landslide. A large number of search and rescue and medical teams were rapidly dispatched to the scene.
FATHER'S LIFELESS BODY RECOVERED
As a result of the teams' efforts, 1 person was rescued with injuries. The injured person was taken to the hospital by ambulance and placed under treatment. A family of 4 was trapped under the debris in the landslide disaster. It was learned that the father's lifeless body was recovered from the wreckage.
Teams in the area are continuing their efforts to reach the other individuals believed to be trapped under the soil. It was also learned that transportation on the Samsun-Ordu highway has been disrupted due to the impact of the landslide.
MAYOR SPOKE
Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Halit Doğan made the following statements following the landslide disaster.
''Our only focus right now is to rescue our citizens safe and sound. The incident occurred when a rock fell onto the car wash point of a gas station. There are claims that a vehicle is trapped underneath. We believe there is a woman, a man, and children. The female passenger was rescued; she was apparently not in the vehicle. Efforts are underway to rescue the father and his children. We have no information about a previous landslide in this area. I hope there will be no loss of life.''
Samsun Governor Orhan Tavlı stated that a landslide had occurred in the region, saying, "Soil and rock fragments fell onto the car wash park next to the gas station. With the intervention of the teams, 1 female citizen was rescued with injuries. The intervention in the incident is ongoing. I wish everyone a speedy recovery."
