Citizens resist Cengiz Holding for the Kaz Mountains: Construction machinery stopped

Cengiz Holding, which has added to its wealth through tenders received from the AKP government, is set to massacre 1 million trees for the Halilağa gold and copper mine that its subsidiary, Truva Madencilik, wants to open in the Bayramiç district at the foothills of the Kaz Mountains.

While the company continues its tree clearing for the project without slowing down, local residents gathered in Hacıbekirler Village in Bayramiç, Çanakkale, to put a stop to the environmental massacre.

"WE CAME AND STOPPED THEM YESTERDAY, THEY HAVE COME AGAIN TODAY"

Citizens rebelled against Cengiz Holding's environmental massacre.

Speaking through tears, one citizen said, "We don't want this. We planted these pines with our own hands. I planted them with my own hands. Isn't it a shame? We came and stopped them yesterday, they have come again today."

"WE DO NOT WANT IT TO BE HANDED OVER TO THIS OR THAT PERSON"

72-year-old Mülkiye Yılmaz, who lives in Çanakkale, said the following:

"I am here because of the plundering of the Kaz Mountains. We do not want it to be handed over to this or that person. Such plunder has never been seen anywhere else. Did their fathers plant these trees? They are cutting them down irresponsibly."

"A MUSLIM WOULD NOT DO THIS"

A citizen who came to the protest with a cane rebelled in tears.

"We are crying day and night. Shame on them. I planted these pines with my 2 children... A Muslim would not do this."

 

Citizens and environmentalists stopped the construction machinery continuing the tree massacre.

The gendarmerie reopened the road they had closed following the reaction of the citizens. Citizens began marching toward the construction site with banners and slogans.

 

 

 

It was learned that citizens will gather in front of the construction site building at 14:30.
