A heated argument broke out between Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney and AKP Council Member Emre Bozkuş over allegations of "LGBT propaganda." Mayor Güney told Bozkuş, "Stop this cheap politics, don't act as a hitman," while the topic of military service was also brought up.
Bozkuş accused the Women's Time Association (Kadın Zamanı Derneği), with which the municipality collaborates, of "conducting LGBT propaganda" and "organizing events with individuals linked to terrorist organizations."
"DON'T ACT AS A HITMAN"
Reacting sharply to Bozkuş's accusations, Beyoğlu Mayor İnan Güney stated that the claims were baseless, saying, "Can you show me a single LGBT flag in the nurseries? Your psychology is distorted. Stop this cheap politics. You are a young man; you will be ashamed tomorrow. Don't act as a hitman, do politics," he said.
NEW TENSION OVER MILITARY SERVICE
As the argument continued, Güney criticized Bozkuş's past, saying, "First you pay money, then you get a medical discharge report. You are pressing all the buttons to avoid military service. Then you label people who have honorably completed their military service," he said.
AKP MEMBERS LEFT THE HALL
Following the escalation of tension, the AKP members in the council left the session. After the argument, the Beyoğlu Municipal Council meeting continued in a tense atmosphere.
