Speaking to 12punto during the Bandırma leg of the march, Eğitim-İş Union General Secretary Seher Ergin said, “We are marching to uphold the values of the Republic, the principles and revolutions of Atatürk, to defend the rights of labor, for justice, and for secular and scientific education.”

Eğitim-İş Union members will hold events along the march route in Çanakkale, Bursa, Eskişehir, and Polatlı. The march will conclude with the “Republic and Labor Rally” to be held at Tandoğan Square in Ankara on Saturday, March 1.

The marchers reached the Bandırma district of Balıkesir at noon today. Speaking to 12punto, Eğitim-İş Union General Secretary Seher Ergin stated, “We are marching to uphold the values of the Republic, the principles and revolutions of Atatürk, to defend the rights of labor, for justice, and for secular and scientific education. Today, law, justice, and democracy are being trampled upon in our country, laborers are being condemned to poverty, and the education system is being distanced from science and secularism. While our youth struggle with unemployment, a system lacking merit is engulfing all our institutions. Equality in education is being destroyed, the rights of laborers are being usurped, and our students are being deprived of their right to a modern, secular, and scientific education.”

Ergin added, “We invite everyone who upholds the dignity of labor and defends the Republic, democracy, justice, and the value of labor to meet us at Tandoğan Square in Ankara on March 1! Come, add your voice to ours and strengthen our power.”
