Elderly woman was struck by a tram: The moment was captured on camera
In Istanbul's Kadıköy district on Bahariye Street, 64-year-old grandmother İlgün Kölege lost her life after being struck by a tram while attempting to save her grandchild who had entered the tram tracks. Footage of the incident has emerged. The tram driver, K.T., who was taken into custody, has been released under judicial control.

The incident occurred yesterday evening on Bahariye Street in Kadıköy. According to reports, 64-year-old İlgün Kölege was walking on the street with her 4-year-old grandchild when the child entered the tram tracks. It is alleged that the elderly woman, seeing the tram approaching, pushed her grandchild away at the last moment, saving the child from being crushed. The woman, unable to escape herself, was struck by the tram. While the woman was dragged under the tram for some distance and sustained serious injuries, the 4-year-old child was slightly injured.
WOMAN LOST HER LIFE AT THE HOSPITAL
Upon notification, police, fire, and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. The seriously injured elderly woman and her slightly injured grandchild, who were rescued from under the tram by fire crews, were taken to the hospital by ambulance. İlgün Kölege passed away at the hospital where she was taken.
FOOTAGE OF THE INCIDENT HAS EMERGED
Crime Scene Investigation teams conducted a lengthy examination in the area. Security camera footage of the incident has emerged. In the footage, a child appears in front of the approaching tram. The woman, running after the child, pushes them away, preventing them from going under the tram. İlgün Kölege, who saved her grandchild's life with this move, lost her own life.
The Kadıköy District Police Department Public Security Bureau teams, which launched an investigation into the matter, took the tram driver K.T. into custody. The suspect driver was released under judicial control following processing at the police station.
