Three days have passed since the landslide at the mining site operated by Anagold Madencilik Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. in the İliç district of Erzincan on February 13. While footage of the moment of the incident reveals the scale of the disaster, search and rescue efforts for the 9 workers trapped under the rubble are ongoing.
Journalist Fatih Portakal made a striking statement regarding the region during the main news bulletin on Sözcü TV.
Emphasizing the need to prevent such a disaster from happening again, Fatih Portakal examined other risky mines in Turkey. Saying, 'Please listen to this part carefully,' Portakal listed the provinces under risk.
"MANY PLACES ARE RISKY"
Fatih Portakal said, "The Anagold company owns the second-largest mining area in Turkey. Our team member Fırat Fıstık identified the risky mines in Turkey. Please listen to this report from Sözcü TV carefully. It is not just the Anagold mining site in Erzincan's İliç; there are risky mines in many places."
Here are those mines:
Sivas - Çetinkaya Iron Mine; Similar to the one in İliç, the accumulation of soil is exerting pressure, causing cracks to form in the fields. It was stated that the water coming from the Pınargözü village has been completely cut off. The noise, dust, and dirt in the region are also added problems...
Ordu - Fatsa; Altıntepe Mining continues to search for gold in the region using cyanide. The Ministry rejected the EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) report. It is currently being operated without an EIA and without a license.
CHP Ordu Deputy Mustafa Adıgüzel made the following statement on the subject: "We had it tested at an international laboratory. In samples taken from the surface of the Elekçi River, these heavy metals were found to be 20, 100, and 200 times higher than normal. What more can we do? Why don't you close this place down now?"
Kastamonu - Hanönü, Gökırmak Copper Mine; It was stated that there was a shift in the waste dam. It was reported that the dam shifted by approximately 2 meters.
Fatih Portakal stated that the Kaz Mountains are also among these risky places. Continuing his speech, Portakal said, "The mining sites here actually need to go through an inspection. I am not saying cancel their activities or licenses right now. But at least the activities can be reviewed again. An inspection can be carried out. I am not thinking about the gold extracted here. I am thinking about the families working in those mines. I am thinking about those people. I am thinking about their families."
