Former national football player Gökhan Zan, who became a voice for Hatay—one of the cities most affected by the February 6 earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş—has expressed his reaction to Lütfü Savaş, whom the CHP has re-nominated as a candidate in Hatay.

Gökhan Zan, one of the most prominent figures since the first days of the February 6 earthquakes in Hatay, where massive destruction and loss of life occurred, was a guest on Fatih Altaylı's YouTube program. On the program, Zan made striking remarks about Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Lütfü Savaş, who has also been re-nominated by the CHP.

Zan said, "During the earthquake, in those bad times, who was by our side? That is what is valuable to us. No one was there."
When Fatih Altaylı asked, "No one was there, but is your anger directed most at Lütfü Savaş?" Gökhan Zan replied, "Yes. Because... he is the person we voted for, the person we stood by, the person we all believed in, the person we believed would turn his face to us, not his back... Because this person left us alone there. First, let's remember the Rönesans Residence. Hundreds of our people died. What happened to 'a corner of paradise'? He attended its opening with golden scissors. He called the contractor an idealist on just the 2nd or 3rd day of the earthquake... Shame on him. Is this the mayor who can be the voice of our children who died there? Is this the cry of our children who are still missing, our people who haven't been seen? With what conscience, with what mercy, with what humanity can you come out and say this man is an idealist? What kind of idealist, for heaven's sake?"
Zan continued, "Or the owners and contractors of other real estate projects... Didn't you say; 'I live in a villa,' in an interview on a channel just recently, Mr. Lütfü Savaş... You said, 'I am staying in a container,' the people of Hatay don't believe this anyway. But I don't know if you convinced anyone else outside the people of Hatay. When he was asked about having a villa, he said it belonged to a friend, a professor friend. I am asking Lütfü Savaş now... Who is that professor friend, explain it. Isn't it Özat? Isn't that the man whom two women from Antakya caught at a shopping mall in Ankara? Say that, Mr. Lütfü Savaş. Why don't you say it? That is why we are in an uproar."
Zan stated, "He says, 'I did nothing wrong, I don't find any fault in myself.' He sees himself as very cleared, very comfortable. What kind of comfort is this? You cannot act this comfortably while we are in such an uproar. That is why the people of Hatay do not want him, that is why we do not want him."
