Gorilla discovered at Istanbul Airport

The Ministry of Trade's Customs Enforcement teams seized an endangered baby gorilla at Istanbul Airport that was being shipped from Nigeria to Bangkok. The baby gorilla has been handed over to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

Istanbul Airport Customs Enforcement Smuggling and Intelligence Directorate teams tracked a cage-type cargo shipment originating from Nigeria and destined for Bangkok. A detailed examination revealed that the animal inside the cage belonged to the "gorilla gorilla" species, which is endangered and listed in Appendix I of the CITES Convention.

BABY GORILLA IN SAFE HANDS

The baby gorilla, rescued from smugglers, was handed over to the relevant units of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The incident once again highlighted the critical importance of efforts to protect wildlife.
