Governor Gül chairs 'Winter Measures Meeting'

The 'Winter Measures Meeting' was held under the chairmanship of Istanbul Governor Davut Gül with the participation of representatives from relevant institutions. During the meeting, measures taken regarding the expected snowfall in Istanbul were evaluated.

The meeting at the Provincial Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) was attended by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Deputy Governor Mahmut Hersanlıoğlu, district governors, regional and provincial directors, and representatives of relevant institutions.

In his assessment at the meeting, Governor Gül stated: “Snowfall is expected in our Istanbul on Sunday, November 26. Today, we are holding the Winter Measures Meeting to ensure inter-institutional cooperation and to review disaster risks once again.

In disasters and incidents such as snowfall, the most important thing is to ensure timing and coordination. By closely following meteorological data in our Istanbul, we will take all necessary decisions in a timely manner.

Disaster Working Groups will be in command of their tasks, and requests will be fulfilled immediately. District governors will ensure measures are taken with provincial coordination boards. I thank you all for your contributions. Hopefully, we will overcome the snow process in our Istanbul with flying colors,” he said.

Following the speeches, presentations were made regarding the measures to be taken in snow fighting by: AFAD, the Disaster Transportation Infrastructure Group, the Istanbul Police Department, the Turkey Disaster Response Plan (TAMP) Disaster Nutrition Group, the Disaster Health Group, the Disaster Infrastructure Group, the Disaster Energy Group, the Disaster Shelter Group, the Agriculture, Forestry, Food, Water and Livestock Group, the Disaster Technical Support and Supply Group, the Disaster Psychosocial Support Services, and the Search and Rescue Group.

Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Major General Yusuf Kenan Topcu and Provincial Police Chief Zafer Aktaş explained the measures to be taken.

WINTER TIRE REQUIREMENT MOVED UP TO NOVEMBER 25

At the meeting, it was decided that while the winter tire requirement for commercial vehicles is usually between December 1 and April 1 each year, for this year in Istanbul, the requirement to use winter tires on commercial vehicles has been moved up to November 25, 2023.

“PERSONNEL AND VEHICLE STATUS IN SNOW FIGHTING PREPARATIONS”

Within the scope of the 2023-2024 Season Winter Measures in Istanbul:

By the Istanbul Provincial Police Department; a total of 1,504 personnel, including 427 traffic units, 260 public order teams, and 8 gendarmerie teams in the police jurisdiction, and a total of 1,836 personnel, including 498 gendarmerie teams with 147 being traffic units in the gendarmerie jurisdiction, will be on duty,

By the 1st Regional Directorate of Highways; 13 thousand 451 personnel, 3 thousand 708 vehicles and construction equipment, 366 thousand 720 tons of salt, 8 thousand 370 tons of solution and mixture will be used, and service will be provided to 5 thousand 598 vehicles at 23 Highway Service Facilities,

By the Disaster Nutrition Group; service will be provided with 117 vehicles, 300 personnel, 2 thousand volunteers, and at 87 points,

By the Disaster Health Group; service will be provided with 513 112 Ambulance Service units and 39 UMKE vehicles,

By the Agriculture, Forestry, Food, Water and Livestock Group; 2 tons of food will be distributed to stray animals on cold and snowy days with 200 personnel and 50 vehicles,

By the Disaster Technical Support and Supply Group; service will be provided with 14 thousand 18 personnel, a total of 32 thousand 325 construction machines registered to the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, and 2 thousand 969 machines and equipment,

By the Search and Rescue Group; service will be provided with 363 personnel, 54 vehicles, and 6 boats.
