5 WORKERS SAVED AT THE LAST MINUTE
Rocks fell at a tunnel construction site in the Himmetdede area of the Kocasinan district, which is part of the ongoing Kayseri-Yerköy High-Speed Train Line project. Upon notification, AFAD, UMKE, gendarmerie, and medical teams were dispatched to the scene.
During the operations, it was determined that 1 worker was rescued with injuries, while 1 worker had lost their life. Information was shared that 5 other workers managed to escape and avoid being trapped under the falling rocks at the last moment.
Governor Gökmen Çiçek, who went to the region to receive information from officials, stated in his remarks to the press that the rocks fell during a shift where 7 workers were operating inside the tunnel.
Stating that 5 workers noticed the falling rocks and fled, Çiçek said the following:
'Unfortunately, one of our citizens passed away after being struck in the head by a rock, and our other friend was injured. He has now been transported to the hospital. It is not a structural collapse, but a rockfall. Thank God, 5 of our brothers were unharmed. I have received information that the injured person is not in life-threatening condition. There is an excavator inside; the incident occurred while it had stopped working. We are investigating the situation. Our condolences.'
