His heart stopped in the schoolyard, his teacher saved him: Those moments caught on camera

Plevne Secondary School student Çetin Çelebi suddenly felt unwell and collapsed while running and playing with his friends in the schoolyard during recess on December 15. After a while, Çelebi tried to stand up, but then stumbled and fell to the ground again amidst the worried gazes of his friends. The first intervention for the student, whose heart had stopped, was performed by duty teacher Anıl Şenol Torbacı. A friend also took off his coat and placed it under his head. The students running around informed the school administrators to call an ambulance.

FIRST CPR, THEN RESCUE BREATHING

At that moment, Science Teacher Hüseyin Aktaş, who had first aid training, arrived quickly. He checked the motionless student and began performing CPR followed by rescue breathing. After 3 minutes of intervention, the student began to breathe again. Upon the arrival of emergency medical teams, the student was first taken by ambulance to Amasya University Sabuncuoğlu Şerefeddin Training and Research Hospital, and was later transferred to Samsun Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Medicine with a life-threatening condition. His treatment began in the intensive care unit. As his condition improved, his treatment continued in the ward.

"I AM VERY HAPPY"

41-year-old Aktaş, who had a video call with his student, whose life he saved in this incident he encountered for the first time, and his family, said, "I had attended the first aid training organized by the Amasya Provincial Directorate of National Education. When I encountered this situation, I performed the rescue breathing and CPR that we saw and practiced in the training. It is impossible to describe the feeling inside me when my student's breathing reflex returned after a while. I am very happy."

"OUR TEACHER ARRIVED IN TIME"

Recalling the moments he waited anxiously after performing the first intervention on the student, duty teacher Anıl Şenol Torbacı said, "For a moment, I wondered where this would lead. Our student is lucky. Because our teacher Hüseyin arrived in time. The ambulance also arrived on time."

School principal İbrahim Malkoç also stated, "I have been an educator for 40 years. This is the first time I have encountered such an incident. I am proud of my teachers and students for their sensitive behavior. I hope our child Çetin will recover and join us as soon as possible."

Provincial Director of National Education Mehmet Türkmen, who went to the hospital as soon as he heard about the incident and followed the student's treatment, said that they saw the vital importance and result of the practical first aid training given to teachers in this incident. Türkmen expressed, "Seeing our teacher's life-saving intervention and his desperate efforts in the yard from the very first moment made us proud as his colleague."
