Knife attack on police in Taksim

A municipal police officer was the first to rush to the aid of the officer, who was stabbed in the back of the neck.

Police teams launched an operation to apprehend the suspect, who fled the scene after the attack.

It was learned that the police officer, who was taken to the hospital, is not in life-threatening condition and is continuing to receive treatment.

ISTANBUL POLICE ISSUED A STATEMENT REGARDING THE ATTACK!

Regarding the incident that occurred on 12.10.2024 at the Tünel exit of Istiklal Avenue in the Beyoğlu district, in which one of our police officers was injured;

Officers from the Istanbul Police Department immediately arrived at the scene following the incident, and it was determined that an individual had approached and attacked our officer with a knife before fleeing the area.

In the efforts to apprehend the suspect, the individual identified as O.I. (34) was caught in Kasımpaşa and taken into custody.

During the interrogation of the individual, it was determined that they had a criminal record for drug use and disturbing the peace and tranquility of others; furthermore, checks revealed that the individual was receiving psychological treatment.

The treatment of our injured police officer continues at the hospital, and they are not in life-threatening condition.
