While citizens are struggling with the cost of living due to the AKP government's economic policies, the economic management has prepared a new tax package that is expected to draw backlash.
According to the legislative proposal prepared by the AKP and submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), new taxes are coming on many items, including credit cards, new and used vehicles, real estate transactions, and even wristwatches.
If the proposal in question is enacted, citizens with a credit card limit of 100,000 TL or more will be charged an annual defense industry contribution fee of 750 TL. It was announced that the contribution fee payments would be transferred to the Defense Industry Support Fund, and a revenue target of 46 billion 466 million 329 thousand 428 TL was stated.
The new tax package has caused reactions in the public. While citizens are rebelling against the proposal, Mustafa Destici, Chairman of the Great Unity Party (BBP), a junior partner of the People's Alliance, supported the proposal.
Destici defended the planned new taxes while reacting harshly to those who criticized them.

Destici claimed that if citizens do not pay this tax, Turkey's fate will be like that of Syria, Iraq, and Palestine.
The BBP leader accused those who reacted to the contribution fee of defending the DEM Party, Greece, and Armenia.

"Those who use a credit card over 100 thousand liras will give 750 liras to the state to support the defense industry. Pay it, my brother. If you don't pay, you'll end up like Syria; if you don't pay, you'll end up like Iraq; if you don't pay, you'll end up like Palestine.

Their problem, you know, what do we hear from the politicians they support? They don't defend nationalists, they defend the DEM members; when Turkey and Greece face off, they defend Greece, the West, and Armenia.
We have never seen them defend Turkey. Under the name of Atatürkism, hiding behind the words Atatürk and secularism, they are hostile to the state, the homeland, and religion.
My advice is this: we will pay the 750 liras that he doesn't pay; this nation will pay it. This nation and state do not need the money of those who think like him. Let him go buy a large bottle of rakı with that 750 liras and continue to get drunk."
