The Istanbul Governor's Office has issued a statement following an incident in Istanbul's Fatih district, footage of which emerged yesterday evening.

In the video published on social media under the title "beating a woman in a chador," the attacker could be heard saying, "Give me my 50 liras... Your God, your book..."

Footage has emerged of A.Ü.Ş., who assaulted the woman and used abusive language, being transferred to the courthouse.

WORKPLACE SEALED

The statement made by the Istanbul Governor's Office is as follows:

"Footage of an incident that occurred in Fatih District, in which a woman was assaulted and our spiritual values were insulted, has been published on social media.

The images caused public outrage, and as a reflection of this, various messages were written on the shutters of the workplace by citizens reacting to the incident.

As a result of the work of our security units;

- A.Ü.Ş., who committed the act of assaulting the woman and using abusive language, has been taken into custody. It was understood during the interrogation of the individual, against whom proceedings were initiated for the crime of INCITING THE PUBLIC TO HATRED AND ENMITY, that he has 11 criminal records for 'theft from a workplace, intentional injury, drug use, and resisting an officer to prevent them from performing their duty under the law on the protection of the family.'

The workplace where the incident took place has been sealed by Fatih Municipality teams and its operations have been terminated.

The 1st Regional Directorate of Foundations, which owns the property, has initiated the eviction process.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing."
