Pressured by her brothers! Abuse revealed behind suicide attempt

In the incident that occurred on the TEM Highway in the Seyrantepe neighborhood of Sarıyer on September 25, 2023, 19-year-old Zelal A. had attempted suicide from an overpass.

Upon receiving the report, police teams arrived at the scene and closed the side road of the highway to traffic, while fire department crews set up an air mattress. After about an hour of efforts, the young woman, who could not be persuaded, threw herself down. She landed on the air mattress, was rescued with minor injuries, and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The moment the young woman jumped was captured on camera.

PRESSURE TO COMMIT SUICIDE

Following the incident, the young woman was taken to the police station after completing her treatment, and a tragic story emerged behind her suicide attempt. In her statement, the young woman, whose life story is chilling, claimed that she was pressured by her family to "commit suicide" because she had been sexually abused by her brothers in 2021. It was learned that the young woman, who has 6 criminal records, had been admitted to a hospital's psychiatry department, where she was prescribed medication and recommended for inpatient treatment, but she left the hospital without their knowledge.

A General Information Scan (GBT) of the young woman revealed that she had given statements in 2021 and 2022 alleging sexual abuse and had attempted suicide 3 times. It was also learned that she had filed a complaint with the police last June, alleging that she had been held captive by her family. Following her latest suicide attempt, the young woman gave a statement at the police station and was released under the instructions of the prosecutor's office after judicial procedures were completed.
