Legal expert Ruşen Gültekin broadcast on 12punto Zamanın Adaleti evaluated the agenda on the program.
Speaking about the Narin Güran murder, which Turkey has been talking about for days, Ruşen Gültekin stated the following:
'The Narin case has another dimension. Social decay in the East. A whole village, a village of 20 households, remained silent. No one told the truths they knew. Everyone covered up the culprit and ignored the culprit. And today, the investigative authorities are making an effort to shed light on the crime and the culprit, as if digging a well with a needle. But what happened? Even though the investigation is confidential, statements are constantly being shared in the media and other social media tools. This is the crime of violating the confidentiality of an investigation. We are truly going through an environment where morality has collapsed and the law has collapsed.'
NONE OF THE PROBLEMS WILL BE SOLVED WITHOUT A CHANGE IN POWER
Following the Narin Güran murder, evaluating the statements made by AKP Diyarbakır Deputy Galip Ensarioğlu,Gültekin said, 'What does it mean for a family to be powerful? What does family power mean in a state of law? Is it a sect or a community? Which entity do we see as being above the law? Mr. Ensarioğlu's statements are so unfortunate. He says, "I know some things, but I know the family. They are my friends of 40 years, I cannot talk about these." This is a separate crime, as I just explained. But because everything in our country is discussed through a political lens, we say that child murders and femicides are political. Because we have a political stance that prevents us from solving these sociologically. It is impossible for us to solve any of these problems without this political stance being broken, that is, without the government changing.' he stated.
WHAT DID ENSARİOĞLU SAY?
AKP Diyarbakır Deputy Galip Ensarioğlu had previously made statements to SÖZCÜ TV regarding the Narin murder. Ensarioğlu used the following expressions:
"There is confidentiality in the investigation. Furthermore, it has reached the final stage. There are things we sometimes do not know, and sometimes things we know but should not say. Because the family are also our friends. The subject is very sensitive. We do not want to say anything that would upset them too much. On one hand, while the family is experiencing great pain, there are arrests and new detentions among family members... It is not right for us to express something that has not been clarified by the relevant units, without being based on concrete evidence, which would hurt them even more."
We must not overlook something because the eyes of all of Turkey are on this incident. For this reason, there is an intense situation of detention. Among the 21 people taken into custody, there are family members, but a family does not consist of just one person. Even if there are one or two people in the family who are currently suspects and may be found guilty tomorrow or the day after, it is not right to look at the whole family with the same perspective or think the same thing about them.
It is a large family, but if there is a crime, not everyone is guilty. This is not something that could happen with a family decision, such as the brutal murder of our daughter. Surely there is no such thing. It would be good to wait a day or two to get the definitive result regarding the brutality.
I have a 40-year friendship with the family. We know almost all the members of the family. There is a lot of speculation on social media against the family. Some have wanted to address the issue through their political views; this is a very ugly thing. Politics should be kept away from this incident. What could politics have to do with this? Trying to smear a political party or gain rent through this is very ugly.
There are also those who say the family is affiliated with Hezbollah, but the family is one that comes from the Welfare Party tradition. In the past, when I was the Provincial Chairman of the True Path Party, there were uncles of theirs who served in my administration. There are also family members who have been involved in the IYI Party and the AK Party.
They also have a nephew who is currently in the AK Party district administration. It is a family close to the center-right. It is a family that is not at the extremes. It is also very shameful to express this. This matter has nothing to do with politics. This is entirely a matter of conscience and humanity."
THERE ARE THINGS WE KNOW AND THINGS WE DO NOT KNOW
Following the significant backlash to his remarks, Ensarioğlu issued a statement on his X account, saying:
"What I said regarding our daughter Narin during the live broadcast I joined on Sözcü TV this evening is extremely clear and explicit. Those who try to engage in politics over such a painful event and attempt to exploit the society's grief are completely devoid of moral values. The intention of those trying to distort this situation and pull it in different directions is obvious. As I clearly stated during the live broadcast, the judicial process regarding the incident is being carried out with great meticulousness. I have absolutely no statement to the effect that 'family members should not be taken into custody.' I kindly request our citizens not to give credence to such lies and distortions, and I believe it would be more prudent to watch the entire broadcast before making an assessment."
Ensarioğlu later joined a Habertürk broadcast, where he argued that his "words were exploited" and stated the following:
"I was practically lynched on social media. Yes, I know the family. We have friends within the family. They presented my words by cutting the beginning and the end. Especially while there is a confidentiality order; we also have our suspicions and certain opinions. There are things we know and things we don't. Instead of talking about these at this stage, I am saying that this matter is already being examined meticulously. I say, rely on the statements of the authorities. The authorities know more than we do. I was just trying to explain that it is not right to talk about this in front of the press. Otherwise, could there be any expression suggesting that anyone is hiding something or should hide something?"
THE RELEASE OF THE POLATS
Arrested for money laundering and various other crimes, and subsequently released, Dilan and Speaking about the Engin Polat investigations, Ruşen Gültekin stated that money laundering is no longer a crime in Turkey and made the following remarks:
We have reached a point where money laundering is not a crime in Turkey. I repeat, money laundering is not a crime in Turkey. What is the name of our law? The law on laundering assets derived from crime. Therefore, a predicate offense is required. I cannot charge you with money laundering without proving that this money originated from a predicate offense. In other words, you must prove that the money was obtained from crimes such as prostitution, illegal betting, or drugs in order for a money laundering charge to be processed. Therefore, since there is no 'where did you get this' law in Turkey, bringing money from anywhere and depositing it is not a crime. The most important deficiency in the Polat file, in particular, is the lack of a predicate offense investigation. First and foremost, a predicate offense investigation regarding the source of this money should be conducted. However, no predicate offense investigation has been carried out in this file.
SOCIAL DECAY
Stating that the Polat case has also led to social decay in Turkey, Gültekin continued his words as follows:
The minimum wage is 17,000 liras. People go to work. We live in a country where they survive on 17,000 liras at the end of the month. Moreover, half of the people in Turkey receive this amount. Now, these people will ask, 'Why should I work with honor and integrity?' There is a perspective that says, 'If I can launder someone's money, I can become someone who is held in the highest regard.' Therefore, this is social decay.
