Scammers defraud victim of 2 million 800 thousand TL by posing as police and prosecutors
In Başakşehir, scammers who called a Saudi Arabian citizen and identified themselves as police officers and prosecutors told the victim to bring the foreign currency and gold in their home to a specified address. The Saudi citizen placed 40,000 dollars, 100,000 Saudi Riyals, and 1.5 kg of jewelry and gold into a bag, went to the meeting point, and handed them over to the scammer. After realizing they had been defrauded, the Saudi citizen, H.Ş., went to the police. The Public Security Bureau teams conducted an investigation and took Sinan E. into custody.

On November 18, 2023, in Başakşehir, a Saudi Arabian citizen named H.Ş. went to the Başakşehir District Police Department and reported being defrauded. H.Ş. stated, "The person who called me identified themselves as a police officer and prosecutor and told me not to hang up the phone. Then, they directed me and asked if there was any money or gold in the house. I said yes. They told me to put the money and gold I had into a bag and take it to the address they would provide. I put 40,000 dollars, 100,000 Saudi Riyals, and 1.5 kg of jewelry and gold, worth approximately 2 million 800 thousand TL, into a bag and went to the meeting point. I handed it over in person."
CAMERA SURVEILLANCE CONDUCTED
After the Başakşehir District Police Department reported the situation to the Public Security Bureau's Fraud Office, the teams began an investigation, first examining cameras at the scene and then reviewing footage along the routes the suspect had taken. Their research identified the suspect as Sinan E., who had 4 previous criminal records. The Fraud Office teams conducted an operation at the suspect's residence in Bahçelievler and took Sinan E. into custody. Following his interrogation, the suspect, E., was referred to the prosecutor's office.
