She had run into the classroom... Attack on pregnant teacher caught on camera: Attacker arrested

The incident occurred on Wednesday, December 13, at approximately 08:00 at Hacı Ali Osman Gül Primary School, located in the Şahintepe neighborhood of Başakşehir.

According to allegations, the parent, M.Ö., wanted to enter the school building. When denied entry, she forced her way into the building and attacked the pregnant teacher, Esin Ç., in the classroom in front of her students, while hurling insults at her.

She then punched the security guard, Rıfkı Ç., who was trying to intervene, breaking his nose. It was learned that the teacher, Esin Ç., suffered a brief fainting spell and shock at the scene. The security guard, Rıfkı Ç., was taken to the hospital for treatment.

THE ATTACKER RAN INTO THE CLASSROOM

While the teacher and the security guard went to the police station to file a complaint, those moments were captured on security camera.

Police teams, who launched an investigation into the matter, determined that there was an ongoing dispute between the parent and the teacher regarding the student's development and educational processes. It was understood that the dispute stemmed from the parent's refusal to accept information shared by the classroom teacher and the school guidance service that the child might have dyslexia.

On the other hand, it was learned that the school administration had decided, in accordance with Ministry practices, that the person in question should not be admitted to the school building without an appointment, due to the parent bringing her child to school late almost every day, wanting to enter the classroom with the student, waiting in the classroom, and disturbing the teacher with her words, actions, and behavior during these times. It was determined that the parent, holding the teacher responsible for this decision, burst directly into the classroom in a forced and angry manner on the day of the incident and assaulted the teacher while she and the students were in class.

Meanwhile, Eğitim Bir-Sen also held a statement in front of the school and condemned the attack.

ATTACKER ARRESTED

Following the attack, the teacher and the security guard filed a complaint against the attacking parent. As a result of the work carried out by the Istanbul Police Department teams, the suspect M.Ö. was caught and detained at her home in the Şahintepe neighborhood. After her procedures at the police station, the suspect was referred to the courthouse and was arrested and sent to prison.

STATEMENT FROM THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE

The following statements were included in the statement made by the Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the matter:

"A press release has been deemed necessary due to reports in written and visual media outlets regarding the 'attack on a pregnant teacher at a school in Başakşehir'.

On 13.12.2023, it was learned that the suspect M.Ö., a student's parent who was not deemed appropriate to enter the school building at Hacı Ali Osman Gül Primary School in the Şahintepe neighborhood of Başakşehir district, entered the school building despite all warnings and the efforts of security guard R.Ç. to prevent her; that she attempted to assault the complainant, classroom teacher E.Ç., by kicking her while the students were in class; that she used insulting and threatening words directed at the complainant E.Ç.; and that upon the intervention of security guard R.Ç., the suspect intentionally injured the complainant R.Ç. in a way that caused a bone fracture in his body. An investigation was immediately launched by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Within the scope of the investigation, the suspect M.Ö. was referred with a request for her arrest on the charge of 'Intentional Injury Against a Public Official Resulting in a Bone Fracture', and it was decided by the Duty Magistrate Judge that the suspect be arrested. All necessary procedures are being meticulously carried out within the scope of the investigation to reveal the material truth in every aspect."
