Tension between CHP's Adnan Beker and Hande Fırat on live broadcast: 'You would call the Ankara Police Chief'

CHP MP Adnan Beker made statements regarding the dispute that occurred on April 23rd on Ankara's Cumhuriyet Street after police stopped his vehicle, and the subsequent incident where his driver drove toward the police. In a post regarding the matter, Beker stated that he was subjected to a troll attack and shared footage of the day's events from a different perspective.

PARKING CRISIS WITH POLICE 

Beker stated that he objected to his vehicle being stopped arbitrarily and that after speaking with the commissioner, they moved to park the car. However, he claimed that a police officer at the scene, contrary to his superior's actions, stepped in front of his vehicle to try and stop it. Beker said, "I had not released this footage so that the isolated action of one police officer would not be attributed to all our police officers."

Expressing his reaction to news reports on some television channels titled "Adnan Beker injured a police officer," Beker stated that such baseless allegations targeted both him and his driver. He said that "a character assassination was being carried out with reports claiming the police officer in question received a 5-day medical report and that a 'police officer was injured'." Beker remarked, "We do not harm anyone, we do not violate the rights of our police, but we also do not let anyone violate the rights of the nation."

TENSION ON LIVE BROADCAST 

Following the incident, Adnan Beker joined the "Gece Görüşü" (Night Vision) program hosted by Hande Fırat on CNN Türk via phone to explain the dispute. During the broadcast, when Beker said, "I am a member of parliament, can he stand in front of my car?", Fırat retorted, "What happens when you are an MP, are you superior to us?" When Beker replied, "If a police officer stood in front of your car, you would immediately call the Ankara Police Chief, I know you," Fırat reacted: "When have I ever called? Where are you getting this from? I don't call anyone," she said. When Beker insisted, "I know, you would call," Fırat gave an angry response, saying, "Why would I call the Ankara Police Chief?"

THE DISPUTE CONTINUED

To Fırat's question, "Does being an MP mean dragging a police officer?", Beker replied, "I show respect to our police, but I also protect the rights of the nation."
