Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya had announced the operations by the Organized Crime Branch and the Public Security Branch as the "Kafes 29" (Cage 29) operation.
It was learned that the two gangs, from which a total of 71 people were detained, had been in a feud for years and were responsible for numerous murders and attacks, including the killing of 15-year-old Büşra Polat, who was caught in the crossfire during a shootout in Sultangazi.
Four days ago, at around 02:00 in Eyüpsultan, teams from the District Police Department stopped a car for a routine check. Police teams searching the driver, Mert A., seized an unlicensed firearm. Taking Mert A., who claimed in his initial interrogation that he was going to meet his friends, the teams went to the meeting point in a green area on Erkılıç Street.
However, the group of 7-8 people, seeing the police, opened fire. Following the ensuing shootout, Yusuf Ç., Kadir A., Mehmet G., and Kaan A. were detained. The other suspects fled the scene by taking advantage of the darkness.
THE FLEEING SUSPECTS WERE CAPTURED ONE BY ONE
A large-scale investigation was launched following the incident that put the police on alert. In the operation carried out to capture the fleeing suspects, one of the suspects, Muhammet E., was caught inside a taxi in the Karadolap neighborhood of Gaziosmanpaşa.
Muhammet E., who was seen wearing a bulletproof vest, was detained. In the ongoing operations, the number of detainees rose to 10 with the capture of Emre D., Hasan B., Umut A., and Berkan Ö.
A total of 6 unlicensed pistols, 2 Uzi magazines, and a bulletproof vest were seized along with the suspects. The suspects were interrogated at the Homicide Bureau. It was revealed that the suspects had prior police records for crimes such as intentional injury, possession of unlicensed weapons, intentional homicide, and property damage.

In the "Kafes 29" operation announced by Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, 61 people had been captured by teams from the Istanbul Organized Crime Branch.
With the 10 people taken in the operation carried out by the Public Security Branch teams, the number of detainees rose to 71. It was learned that the two gangs were led by Volkan Reçber and Emrah Sever, nicknamed "Arap Emrah" (Arab Emrah).
15-YEAR-OLD BÜŞRA IS ALSO AMONG THE VICTIMS OF THE MURDERS
15-year-old Büşra Polat, who was caught in the crossfire between the two feuding gangs, had also been killed. On the other hand, it was learned that the two gangs were involved in numerous incidents, such as the murder of Barış Özdoğan, who was showered with bullets while leaving a hotel in Sultangazi, the armed clash with police in Eyüpsultan, and the armed attack on the car of Ali Kılıç, the Deputy Chairman of the CHP Sultangazi Youth Branch.
