The criminal evidence seized in the “Kafes-29” operation, conducted across 7 provinces centered in Istanbul against members of two rival gangs involved in numerous crimes ranging from murder to drug trafficking, has been displayed at the police headquarters. Within the scope of the investigation, 66 people were detained, including members of the gang responsible for the death of 15-year-old Büşra Polat, who lost her life after being caught in the crossfire of two armed groups in Sultangazi.

Teams from the Istanbul Organized Crime Control Branch Directorate had launched an operation against two rival gangs involved in regional activities across the city, including the armed conflict between two groups in Istanbul's Sultangazi district on Saturday, December 30, which resulted in the death of 15-year-old Büşra Polat, who was passing by on the street.

Work was carried out regarding two regional criminal networks led by Volkan R., who is a fugitive abroad with a red notice issued against him, and Emrah S., and it was announced that 66 out of 87 suspects were captured in the operation conducted on Friday, January 5.

WEAPONS DISPLAYED

Police, who scrutinized the actions of the aforementioned gangs that had been engaged in a regional feud for a long time, seized 30 unlicensed pistols, 6 AK-47 type Kalashnikov long-barreled weapons, 4 automatic pistols, and 4 bulletproof ballistic vests as part of the “Kafes-29” operation.

The seized criminal evidence was displayed at the police headquarters. The exhibition of equipment, consisting of the aforementioned weapons, ammunition, and steel vests, was shown to members of the press.

On the other hand, some unsolved incidents that occurred during the gang wars have also been clarified. It was noted that the two rival criminal groups committed 4 separate murders in Istanbul, caused the death of 15-year-old Büşra Polat who was caught in the crossfire during the armed clashes they carried out in Istanbul's Sultangazi, caused damage to numerous workplaces, and engaged in an armed clash with police teams on patrol duty in Eyüpsultan. Among the aforementioned actions were threats and armed attacks against individuals they had disputes with, and the shooting of numerous workplaces and residences for intimidation and extortion purposes, while it was also noted that the gang members were involved in drug trafficking. It was revealed that the gang members, who were caught with numerous unlicensed weapons, also robbed some foreigners living in Turkey.

Among those captured are 16 members of the gang responsible for the death of 15-year-old Büşra Polat, who lost her life after being caught in the middle of the clash in Sultangazi, 10 suspects alleged to be the men of the gang leader nicknamed 'Arap Emrah' who engaged in an armed clash with police in Eyüpsultan, and 6 people responsible for the death of Barış Özdoğan.
