Trial begins for fatal accident involving Kerem Kınık's daughter!

The trial has begun for Fatıma Zehra Kınık Demir, daughter of former Turkish Red Crescent President Kerem Kınık, who caused the death of 17-year-old Batın Barlasçeki and injured two others when her car collided with a motorcycle while exiting a side street onto a main road in Beykoz on July 9. The court closed the hearing, which Kınık Demir attended, to the press and the public.

In the incident on July 9, which was captured second-by-second on security cameras, Fatıma Zehra Kınık Demir was attempting to exit Baki Street onto Fatih Sultan Mehmet Avenue in the Rüzgarlıbahçe neighborhood of Kavacık, Beykoz, when her car struck a motorcycle driven by Yavuz Selim Öztürk.

In the incident, 17-year-old Batın Barlasçeki, who was a passenger on the back of the motorcycle, lost his life, while the motorcycle driver Yavuz Selim Öztürk and Muammer Kızıl, who was struck by the sliding motorcycle on the sidewalk, were injured.

Held for 1 day, then released

Fatıma Zehra Kınık Demir, who was taken into custody following the fatal incident, was released by the court after one day of detention to be tried without arrest. The expert report prepared for the case recorded that she was 100 percent at fault for causing the accident by failing to wait for other vehicles to pass before entering the main road.

Indictment prepared for 2 to 15 years in prison

The Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has prepared an indictment against Fatıma Zehra Kınık Demir, seeking a prison sentence of 2 to 15 years for the charges of "causing death and injury by negligence" in connection with the traffic accident that resulted in one death and two injuries.

However, despite the footage and expert findings, the introduction of the indictment stated that while suspect Fatıma Zehra Kınık Demir was driving her vehicle with license plate 34 FKJ 390 in the Kavacık neighborhood and exiting Baki Street onto FSM Avenue, the motorcycle with license plate 34 HUT 980, driven by complainant Yavuz Selim and traveling toward Rüzgarlıbahçe on FSM Avenue, collided with the suspect's vehicle, overturned, slid along the ground, and struck complainant Muammer Kızıl, who was walking on the sidewalk. The conclusion of the indictment, however, stated that "the suspect, while driving her vehicle on the date of the incident, struck the complainant Yavuz Selim's motorcycle, and as a result of her negligent act, caused the death of Batın Barlasçeki and the injuries of Muammer Kızıl and Yavuz Selim Öztürk."

The hearing was held behind closed doors to the press and public.

The trial of Kınık began today at the Istanbul Anatolian 8th High Criminal Court. The court decided to hold the hearing, which Kınık also attended, behind closed doors to the press and public. Members of the press and spectators were removed from the courtroom.

Those who lost their loved ones expressed their reactions toward Fatıma Zehra Kınık Demir, who is being tried without arrest.

They had demanded an independent trial.

Neriman İnan, the mother of Yavuz Selim Öztürk, who was driving the motorcycle involved in the accident caused by former Turkish Red Crescent President Kerem Kınık's daughter, Fatıma Zehra Kınık Demir, had also spoken out after the crash. Stating that Kınık's daughter should have been arrested in the first place, the mother said, "I want her to be tried independently of who she is or whose daughter she is. We want justice to be served." Criticizing Kınık for using accusatory language in her statement, İnan asked, "Was my child's fault in this accident that he didn't die? If he had died, if we had lost him too, what kind of statement would she have given then?"
