The Ministry of Interior recently conducted a successful operation against a virtual betting gang. Within the scope of the operation, 22 people were taken into custody. Investigations revealed that the virtual betting gang possessed its own private banking system.
In the operation carried out by the Cyber Crimes Branch Directorate, 96 phones, 90 SIM cards, 27 laptops, illicit substances, and an unlicensed handgun were seized. However, beyond these materials, what is striking is the complex mechanism established by the virtual betting gang.
According to the report by Hürriyet, the virtual betting gang had rented several houses and turned them into offices. Employees worked in shifts in these offices, and this personnel was referred to as "on-duty." These on-duty staff managed the gang's money flow system, integrating incoming and outgoing funds into the system by assigning them to bank accounts and phone numbers. Thanks to this identification, the money entering the system could be withdrawn as cash from ATMs.
It has been learned that the investigation initiated by the Cyber Crimes Branch Directorate is ongoing.
