Jakarta - Following the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki, located in Indonesia's East Nusa Tenggara province, 1,172 people living in the region have been evacuated.
According to a report by Antara News, regional authorities took emergency measures due to the volcano becoming active in the East Flores region. Women and children were among those evacuated.
In their statement, officials noted that temporary shelters have been set up for the evacuees and that food and blankets have been provided. It was also stated that detailed investigations into the incident in the region have been initiated.
In a statement made by the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), it was reported that the volcano spewed ash to a height of 1,000 to 1,500 meters. Following the event, the region is being closely monitored to assess the effects of the volcanic activity.
