Warning from IMM regarding fake text messages

Some citizens received text messages on their mobile phones in the evening hours that appeared to have been sent by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Department of Cemeteries. The IMM issued a warning regarding the fake text message in question.

The text message, which displayed 'IBBMEZDAIBS' in the sender field, contained the phrase, "A login has been made with your e-Government Gateway password. If this was not you, please check."

IMM WARNING: 'DO NOT TAKE ACTION'

The IMM issued a statement on its social media account regarding the message sent to citizens. The IMM's post stated, "It has been determined that some of our citizens have received this message, which appears to have come from our Department of Cemeteries. We kindly request that our citizens do not take any action regarding the message in question."

STATEMENT FROM THE DIRECTORATE OF COMMUNICATIONS

A statement regarding the matter was also issued by the Presidency's Directorate of Communications Center for Combating Disinformation. The statement, which indicated that the purpose of the message was fraud, said the following:

"Text messages received on some mobile phones stating, 'A login has been made with your e-Government Gateway password. If this was not you, please check,' are intended for fraud.

The aim is to seize users' e-Government information via the link in the text message.

Please be aware of fraudulent activities attempted by using the names and logos of public institutions and organizations.

Do not pay attention to any notifications or announcements other than those from official institutions."
