A 'Working Group' delegation consisting of 21 deputies, led by CHP Elazığ Deputy Gürsel Erol, carried out a series of investigations to draw attention to the earthquake danger in Tunceli.

The delegation first met with Prof. Dr. Naci Görür in Ankara to receive information about the fault lines in and around Tunceli. They then traveled to Tunceli to conduct inspections in the high-risk area where the East Anatolian Fault Line and the North Anatolian Fault Line intersect.

ATTENTION TO TUNCELİ

Making a statement on behalf of the delegation, Gürsel Erol pointed out that earthquakes of magnitude 7 or greater are expected in the region where a 250-year cycle has come to an end, stating, "In some parts of Tunceli, these earthquakes could be felt as a magnitude 10. In such a situation, not a stone would be left standing."

Erol stated that Tunceli must be made into an earthquake-resistant city, adding, "We must take precautions before the earthquake happens, not after. We will make every kind of bureaucratic and political effort for this. We will not leave Tunceli alone."
