Erdem, who was criticized by MHP Secretary General Büyükataman, was warned by Sinan Ateş's sister after submitting her resignation from MHP party membership.
Stating that her brother went through a similar process, Selma Ateş warned Arzu Erdem with the words 'take care of yourself'.

In a post on her social media account, Selma Ateş said, "Arzu Erdem, this beginning reminded me of my brother," and stated that the MHP told Sinan Ateş not to travel, not to pose for photos, not to conduct work, and not to publish books, and then attacked him with spite to destroy his reputation.
Saying “You know these things better than anyone,” Ateş addressed Arzu Erdem, stating, "I want you to know that the same will be done to you soon. In this party, it is not accepted that anyone can have a social circle after their term or do any work for the Turkish nation.”
In the continuation of her post, Ateş said, “I advise you to take care of yourself. I do not like it when anything is done to anyone, but through this, you can better understand what my brother went through.”
