US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has reported that Iran and Hezbollah could carry out retaliatory attacks against Israel within the next 24 to 48 hours.
The warning was issued during a conference call with G7 foreign ministers, raising concerns that tensions in the region could escalate significantly.
Blinken informed the G7 foreign ministers that while the US does not have precise information regarding the attack plans of Iran and Hezbollah, the strikes could begin shortly.
'INCREASE IN US FORCES IS FOR "DEFENSIVE" PURPOSES'
Blinken emphasized that the US is making efforts to limit regional tensions and prevent the conflict from expanding further by restraining Israel's response. He also encouraged G7 countries to call for restraint from Iran, Hezbollah, and Israel, and stated that the increase in the number of US forces in the region is solely for defensive purposes.
During Blinken's call, the need to accelerate efforts to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and deliver humanitarian aid was emphasized. The ministers discussed how a ceasefire in Gaza could impact peace and stability in the region, including along the "Blue Line" border between Israel and Lebanon. The G7 countries called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint to prevent the conflict from escalating and reiterated their commitment to Israel's security.
