An incident at the historic Edirnekapı Walls in Ayvansaray was prevented from turning into a potential tragedy thanks to the vigilance of citizens. Upon receiving a report about two individuals exhibiting suspicious behavior, police teams were dispatched to the area.
CITIZEN VIGILANCE PROMPTED POLICE ACTION
The incident occurred on May 23, 2026, at approximately 13:50 in the Ayvansaray neighborhood of Fatih district.
According to the information obtained, a citizen who became suspicious of the behavior of 16-year-old E.D.Y. and 18-year-old A.H.K., who were on the walls, reported the situation to the police. Upon the tip-off, teams arrived at the scene and took the two individuals, who were learned to be in a relationship, to the police station to take their statements.
CONTENT RELATED TO THE 2024 MURDER FOUND ON PHONES
During the examination conducted by police teams, it was determined that the mobile phones belonging to E.D.Y. and A.H.K. contained content and various correspondence related to the murder that took place at the Edirnekapı Walls in 2024.
Following this discovery, police teams informed the minor girl's family about the developments.
FAMILY AND MINOR GIRL DID NOT FILE A COMPLAINT
Within the scope of the investigation, it was learned that E.D.Y. and her mother did not file any complaint against A.H.K.
After the completion of the procedures at the police station, an important decision was made by the court regarding A.H.K., who was referred to the courthouse.
COURT ORDERS OBSERVATION
The court ruled that A.H.K. be placed under observation at the Bakırköy Psychiatric Hospital for a period of three weeks and that judicial control measures be applied to him.
On the other hand, E.D.Y. was handed over to her family after the completion of her procedures at the police station.
LEARNED THAT HE WAS RECEIVING PSYCHIATRIC TREATMENT
According to the information obtained regarding the incident, it was also stated that A.H.K. had been receiving psychiatric treatment in Istanbul for some time.
Thanks to the intervention carried out by police teams upon a citizen's tip-off, an investigation and judicial process regarding the incident were initiated.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
On October 4, 2024, Semih Çelik murdered 19-year-old İkbal Uzuner on the walls in Edirnekapı and then committed suicide. When the police went to Çelik's home, they also found the body of Ayşenur Halil, who was the same age.
