At the Antares Residences construction site in the Ayvalı neighborhood of Ankara's Keçiören district, an elevator carrying two workers fell from the 25th floor yesterday evening. The workers in the elevator, Halil İkiyıldız and İsmail Özbay, lost their lives at the scene due to the impact of the fall.
THEY HAD BEEN REFERRED TO COURT
Following the incident, 7 people, including the owners and officials of 3 separate contractor firms involved in the construction, were detained. Among those detained was Mevlüt Kahraman, the owner of Birlik İnşaat, one of Ankara's largest construction companies. After providing their statements to the prosecutor's office, the suspects were referred to court with a request for judicial control, requiring them to sign in every 15 days.
IS IT BEING COVERED UP?
According to a report by T24, it is alleged that some members of parliament intervened to secure the release of the suspects, including Kahraman.
It is stated that the prosecutor's office referred the suspects to judicial control because 3 different firms were working as contractors at the construction site where the incident occurred, the firm owners are shifting responsibility onto one another, and the fault status of the firms regarding the incident has not yet been determined. It was learned that the suspects were referred to judicial control on charges of "causing death by negligence due to failure to ensure occupational health and safety."
