'Was this the place of the future?' he had asked: Hüseyin Kocabıyık, who criticized the arrest of İmamoğlu, expelled from AKP

The Justice and Development Party (AKP) has issued a final expulsion decision regarding former İzmir MP Hüseyin Kocabıyık. Kocabıyık was expelled from the AKP for reacting to the arrest of CHP's presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.

The expulsion of MP Hüseyin Kocabıyık from the party came after his criticisms regarding the detention process of Ekrem İmamoğlu. Kocabıyık, who directed criticisms toward AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, argued that his party had moved from a 'line of honor to a line of shame.'

The AKP Central Disciplinary Board evaluated Kocabıyık under the scope of 'final expulsion with precautionary measures.' The decision was announced through the party's official channels. AKP officials stated that the disciplinary process had been completed and the decision was finalized. In response to the decision, Kocabıyık shared a photo taken at Pınarhisar Prison in 1999 on his social media account, writing, 'Most of those who made the expulsion decision for me today were in primary school back then.'

In the statement he added under the photo, Kocabıyık noted the following:

'This is Pınarhisar Prison. In this photo, there is Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who was subjected to injustice and lawlessness that day. There is Erol Olçok, there is Hayati Yazıcı, there is a guard standing over us, and there is me. Most of those who made the expulsion decision for me today were likely still primary school students. Let those who have moved being an AK Party member from a line of honor to a line of shame be ashamed!'

In the message that led to his expulsion, criticizing the decision made regarding İmamoğlu, Kocabıyık used the following expressions:

'Recep Tayyip Erdoğan… was this the place of the future? Did we struggle for this? Is this why we dragged ourselves through courts for years? You actually staged a coup against yourself, you have no idea!'
