We Will Stop Femicide Platform announces: '205 women were murdered in the first 6 months of the year'

Since Turkey unilaterally withdrew from the Istanbul Convention on July 1, 2021, violence against women has been steadily escalating.
The We Will Stop Femicide Platform announced its June 2024 report at a press conference held at the Şişli Nazım Hikmet Cultural Center.
According to the report, the number of women murdered in the first six months of the year has nearly doubled.
The report stated that 41 women were victims of murder in June alone, and provided data showing that 131 women were murdered in the first six months of 2021, 164 in the first six months of 2022, 147 in the first six months of 2023, and 205 in the first six months of 2024.
The report also included the following statements regarding the importance of the Istanbul Convention:
When we look at the first 6 months of every year since the withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention, the number of femicides has increased. This June, we shared the highest femicide data we have recorded to date. Despite the clear increase in femicides, the political power is attacking women's acquired rights and trying to render Law No. 6284 dysfunctional.
CHILDREN ARE BEING MURDERED
The report, which states that children live under the threat of death and abuse, emphasized that 9 of the 14 murdered girls were killed along with their mothers. At this point, it was pointed out that the policies implemented by the political power to increase birth rates do not find a response in objective conditions.
117 SUSPICIOUS DEATHS
It was also highlighted that there were 117 suspicious deaths of women in the first six months of 2024. Accordingly, 12% of the women whose deaths were considered suspicious in the first six months of 2024 were found to have been shot with firearms.
On the other hand, it was stated that 66 percent of the murdered women were between the ages of 25 and 65.

Dilber Sünnetçioğlu, a member of the Women's Assemblies of the We Will Stop Femicide Platform, stated, “We will continue to explain Law No. 6284 to women all over the country. We will stand against the authorities with Law No. 6284.”
