What does SADAT have to do with this photo at Anıtkabir: The detail overlooked in the YAŞ photo

The Supreme Military Council (YAŞ) meeting was held under the chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Before the meeting, President Erdoğan and the members of the council visited Anıtkabir. A photograph taken there drew attention. Due to the changed structure of the Supreme Military Council, the force commanders and the Chief of General Staff were left in the background. SADAT had previously admitted firsthand that it was influential in the restructuring of the YAŞ.

The Supreme Military Council (YAŞ) meeting was held under the chairmanship of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The meeting at Beştepe was attended by Council members Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan, Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek, Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya, Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin, Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler, Chief of General Staff General Metin Gürak, Commander of the Land Forces General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, Commander of the Naval Forces Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu, and Commander of the Air Forces General Ziya Cemal Kadıoğlu.

President Erdoğan and the YAŞ members visited Anıtkabir before the meeting.

The ceremony, which began after Erdoğan took his place at the head of the Lion Road, was attended by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan, Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek, Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya, Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin, Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler, Chief of General Staff General Metin Gürak, Commander of the Land Forces General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, Commander of the Naval Forces Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu, and Commander of the Air Forces General Ziya Cemal Kadıoğlu.

After President Erdoğan placed a wreath adorned with the crescent and star motif at Atatürk's mausoleum, a moment of silence was observed and the National Anthem was played.

The delegation led by Erdoğan took a photograph in front of the stairs leading to the mausoleum and then moved to the Misak-ı Milli Tower.

Signing the Anıtkabir Special Book there, President Erdoğan wrote the following:

"Dear Atatürk; As members of the Supreme Military Council, we once again commemorate you and our heroic martyrs with mercy today, and we wish that our Council's 2024 meeting will be auspicious for our country, our nation, and the Turkish Armed Forces. In a critical period where uncertainties are increasing in the world and hot conflicts and political assassinations are taking place in our geography, Turkey stands out as a beacon of stability and peace in its region. We are determined to protect our homeland, our nation, our state, and our national interests to the end by taking all necessary measures against the expansionist ambitions that have recently resurfaced. We will not give an opportunity to those who want to turn our region into a bloodbath, and we will continue to be a source of security for our friends as well as our own citizens. May your soul rest in peace."

The photograph of President Erdoğan and the YAŞ members taken at Anıtkabir drew attention. Due to the changed structure of the Supreme Military Council, the force commanders and the Chief of General Staff were left in the background. SADAT had previously admitted firsthand that it was influential in the restructuring of the YAŞ.

THE SADAT CONFESSION

To understand the change in the structure of the Supreme Military Council (YAŞ), one must look at SADAT, which became influential in the TSK following the FETÖ coup attempt on July 15, 2016. 

SADAT (International Defense Consultancy Construction Industry and Trade Inc.), which was founded under the leadership of soldiers dismissed from the TSK due to "reactionary activities"…

Brigadier General Adnan Tanrıverdi, who was sidelined in the TSK in 1996 due to reactionary activities and subsequently retired, served as Chief Advisor to President Tayyip Erdoğan.

In a speech he gave at the congress of the Association of Justice Defenders Strategic Studies Center (ASSAM), of which he was the Chairman of the Board, he drew backlash with his words, "The Mahdi will come, we must prepare the environment for this." Following his "Mahdi" statement, Chief Presidential Advisor and member of the Presidential Security and Foreign Policy Board Adnan Tanrıverdi resigned from his posts.

In a video, Adnan Tanrıverdi explained that all the proposals they brought forward after July 15 were implemented and that the proposal for the YAŞ structure to change and become civilian was also accepted as follows:

"Almost all of our findings regarding the restructuring of the Armed Forces in the constitutional proposal we presented were incorporated after July 15. We said at the time that all Military Academies and Military Schools should be connected to the Ministry of National Defense, and they were. We said the General Command of the Gendarmerie should be connected to the Ministry of Interior instead of the General Staff, and it was. We said the structure of the Supreme Military Council should change, we said the Military High Judiciary should be abolished, and that also happened. We said the presidential system should come, and it did. Almost all of these proposals of ours were realized in the restructuring after July 15."
