Iran targeted the Israeli Ministry of Defense headquarters in Tel Aviv twice. Footage of the attack revealed that at least two Iron Dome missile defense systems were destroyed.

While the system provided a more effective defense against approximately 300 missiles in past Iranian attacks, it sustained significant damage this time. The extent of the destruction to the batteries is not yet known. Following the attack, Tel Aviv took on the appearance of a battlefield.

WHAT IS THE IRON DOME?

The Iron Dome is an air defense system developed by Israel. This system is used primarily to protect cities and strategic areas against short-range rocket and mortar attacks. Developed by Israel's Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, the Iron Dome detects launched rockets via radar and destroys them in the air by firing interceptor missiles.

The primary purpose of the Iron Dome is to protect civilian residential areas, military bases, and critical infrastructure against enemy attacks. The system stands out for its effectiveness against low-cost, short-range rockets and mortar shells. It has also achieved great success due to its capacity to respond very quickly and plays a critical role in security strategy.
