WhatsApp messages of Bebek Hotel owner Muzaffer Yıldırım revealed

Following the arrest of Bebek Hotel owner Muzaffer Yıldırım as part of a "narcotics" and "prostitution" investigation, 550,000 WhatsApp messages were recovered as a result of an examination of his phone. The investigation revealed not only Yıldırım's correspondence with business figures but also various other significant pieces of information.

CORRESPONDENCE INCLUDES DISCUSSIONS WITH BUSINESS FIGURES

Through a technical examination conducted by an expert committee, significant portions of the 550,000 WhatsApp messages on Yıldırım's phone were recovered.

According to a report by the pro-government outlet Yeni Şafak, the examination revealed numerous details, including the photographing of individuals visiting Club House, the suspension of a demolition order for the venue known as Club House, and correspondence regarding Bebek Hotel.

Furthermore, it was learned that the correspondence includes discussions held with certain business figures known for their proximity to the government. This development could change the course of the investigation.

Authorities announced that technical analysis of the digital materials is ongoing and that the findings obtained have been added to the investigation file. The examinations provide significant clues that the investigation may deepen further.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Bebek Hotel owner Muzaffer Yıldırım was detained on January 5, 2025, and was arrested by the Criminal Court of Peace at the Istanbul Courthouse, where he was referred on January 7. During the detention process, Yıldırım was taken to the Council of Forensic Medicine (ATK) for a drug test, and tissue and blood samples were collected. The tests conducted detected cannabis in Yıldırım's hair, and his drug test result came back positive.

ASSETS SEIZED

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office requested the seizure of Yıldırım's assets, stating that there is significant evidence that he obtained his wealth through criminal activity and laundered the proceeds in question. The Istanbul 8th Criminal Judgeship of Peace subsequently ordered the seizure of Yıldırım's assets. In a statement from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was noted that an investigation has also been launched against Yıldırım for the crime of "money laundering."
