Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer has been arrested on charges of "being a member of the PKK/KCK armed terrorist organization" as part of an investigation launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Following Özer's removal from office, it was announced that Istanbul Deputy Governor Can Aksoy has been appointed as the trustee to the Esenyurt Municipality.
WHO IS CAN AKSOY, HOW OLD IS HE, AND WHERE IS HE FROM?
Born in 1983 in the Altındağ district of Ankara, Can Aksoy is originally from Kırşehir. He completed his primary and secondary education in Keçiören, Ankara, and finished his undergraduate studies at the Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences, Department of Political Science and Public Administration, graduating in 2005.
During his university years, he completed internships at the Local Government Research and Training Center (YAYEM) of the Public Administration Institute for Turkey and the Middle East (TODAİE) in 2002, and at the General Directorate of Laws and Decisions of the Prime Ministry of the Republic of Turkey in 2003.
He began his professional career in 2006 as a District Governor Candidate in the Civil Administration Service, subsequently completing his inspection internship in Giresun, his assistantship internship in Polatlı, Ankara, and his provincial internships in Kırşehir. He served as acting district governor in Korgun, Çankırı, in 2006.
In 2007, he was sent by the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Turkey to the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom for one year to participate in foreign language and professional training programs. Afterward, he completed the 40th Term Public Diplomacy Course at the Public Administration Institute for Turkey and the Middle East.
