Former minister and member of parliament Ömer Barutçu has lost his life. Following the passing of Barutçu, who had been receiving treatment in Ankara for some time due to health issues, the former leader of the İYİ Party, Meral Akşener, made a statement.
In her statement, Akşener used the following expressions: "I have learned with great sadness that we have lost one of the valuable statesmen raised by our country, our former Minister of State and Transport, who served our nation and our country for many years, my esteemed elder Ömer Barutçu... I wish God's mercy upon the deceased and offer my condolences to his family and loved ones."
WHO IS ÖMER BARUTÇU?
Born in 1942 in the Vakfıkebir district of Trabzon, Ömer Barutçu's father's name was Hüsnü and his mother's name was Ayşe. Married and a father of two, Barutçu was fluent in French. A graduate of the Ankara Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences, Barutçu served as an economist, politician, and member of parliament. Elected as a Zonguldak MP for the DYP in the 16th, 18th, 19th, 20th (December 24, 1995 – April 18, 1999), and 21st terms (April 18, 1999 – November 3, 2002), Barutçu served as Minister of State in the 49th, 51st, and 52nd governments, and as Minister of Transport in the 53rd and 54th governments. Additionally, he held important positions such as President of the Student Association of the Ankara Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences, President of the National Student Federation of Turkey, member of the Board of Directors of the Higher Education Credit and Hostels Institution, and member of the Supervisory Board and General Administrative Board Accountant of the Turkish Red Crescent Society. He also served as the Head of the Administrative Affairs Department of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey.
