Who is Ömer Rasim Şişman, elected as Acting Mayor of Beşiktaş Municipality?

As part of an investigation into allegations of bribery involving municipal mayors and administrators in Istanbul to rig tenders, Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat was arrested on January 17.

Following his arrest and subsequent removal from office by the Ministry of Interior, it was announced by the Istanbul Governor's Office that an acting mayor would be elected by the Beşiktaş Municipal Council to replace Akpolat. As a result of the election held today, Ömer Rasim Şişman was elected as the acting mayor.

WHO IS ÖMER RASİM ŞİŞMAN?

Ömer Rasim Şişman was born in Kahramanmaraş in 1991. After completing his primary and secondary education in Kahramanmaraş, he successfully graduated from the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Haliç University. He completed his master's degree in the Business Administration program at the same university's Institute of Social Sciences.

For his thesis, he focused on the topic of "Social Media and Political Communication Model Proposals," and this work was published. During his university years, he served as a founding board member of the Young Social Scientists Association. He also undertook the roles of founding president of the Political Science and International Relations Club and president of the Student Clubs Union.

He has held significant positions such as executive board member of the Young Social Democrats Platform and president of the Haliç University Alumni and Members Association. He currently serves as the Secretary General of the Social Democracy Foundation.

In addition to his articles published in various newspapers and magazines and the programs he has prepared for digital platforms, he is also among the authors of the book titled "Ses Ver İhmal Etme" (Give Voice, Don't Neglect), which is a social responsibility project.
