Prof. Dr. Münci Kalayoğlu, 84, who suffered a brain hemorrhage in August and had been receiving treatment for dementia for a long time, passed away at his home in Istanbul.
The funeral ceremony is planned to be held in Istanbul on Tuesday.

WHO IS PROF. DR. MÜNCİ KALAYOĞLU?
Münci Kalayoğlu was born in Ankara in 1940. A Turkish general surgeon, Kalayoğlu was known as the first Turkish doctor to perform a liver transplant, specialized in the fields of organ transplantation and particularly liver transplantation, and was among the world-renowned surgeons.
A member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences, Kalayoğlu held honorary doctorate titles from METU, Ege University, Süleyman Demirel University, and Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University.
