Who won at the Menzil ballot box? That party received 3 votes

Sözcü columnist Saygı Öztürk announced the election results from Menzil Village in the March 31 Local Elections.

"IT IS THE CENTER OF THE SECT"

In his column, Öztürk stated, "The Menzil sect split into two after the death of their leader, Sheikh Muhammed Râşid Erol. Erol's son, Fevzeddin Erol, opposed his uncle Abdülbaki Erol succeeding his father. Eventually, he moved his dervish lodge to the Bilvanis farm within the borders of Sivrihisar. He purchased vast lands along the Sakarya River. He named the village he established 'Buhara.' Menzil Village, attached to the Kahta district of Adıyaman, remains primarily the center of the sect. When the dispute between the cousins began, those in Menzil changed their surnames. They adopted their great-grandfather's name, El Hüseyni, as their surname."

"For the first time since 1989, a social democratic party has achieved success in Adıyaman," said Öztürk, adding, "In Adıyaman, also known as a stronghold of the AKP, the AKP suffered a massive defeat... In the Adıyaman city center, CHP MP Abdurrahman Tutdere received 51,299 votes, while the AKP mayoral candidate Ziya Polat received 28,285 votes."

CHP DID NOT FIELD A CANDIDATE IN THE LARGEST DISTRICT

Öztürk noted the following:

"In Kahta, the province's second-largest district after the central district with a population of 195,000—and known for Mount Nemrut and the Menzil sect, with a surface area larger than 19 Turkey's 19 provinces—the CHP did not participate in the March 31 elections. In the district where no candidate was fielded, AKP's Mehmet Can Hallaç won the election with 14,617 votes, while the New Welfare Party's (Yeniden Refah Partisi) Mehmet Şükrü Turanlı came in second with 8,444 votes, and HÜDA PAR candidate Adem Yavuz came in third with 6,683 votes."

3 VOTES FOR THE LEFT PARTY IN MENZIL

Sharing that 6 ballot boxes were set up in Menzil Village, the center of the sect, and in the area where the sect's timeshare properties are located, Öztürk provided the following information: "Since the CHP did not participate in the election in Kahta, to which the village is attached, naturally no votes were cast for the CHP there. Perhaps the most interesting part was that the Left Party (SOL Parti) received 3 votes in Menzil. While the AKP received 1,148 of the votes, the total number of votes cast for the 14 political parties participating in the election from Menzil only reached 51."
