WHAT IS NIHON HIDANKYO?

Nihon Hidankyo is an organization in Japan that advocates for the rights of atomic bomb survivors and supports nuclear disarmament. Its full name is "Nihon Hidankyo" (Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organizations), and it was established in 1956. It is supported by hibakusha (atomic bomb survivors) who survived the nuclear attacks in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The goal of Nihon Hidankyo is to bring the health and social issues faced by hibakusha to the forefront, provide them with support, and conduct work at both national and international levels to ban nuclear weapons. The organization is considered a pioneer of nuclear disarmament movements and organizes campaigns for this purpose worldwide. Furthermore, it voices the demands of survivors regarding issues such as medical treatment, compensation, and social rights, and requests support from the Japanese government on these matters.
