A woman named Pınar Z., living in the Muratpaşa district of Antalya, was subjected to an attack by her ex-husband, Gürhan Ü. The man, who poured gasoline on his ex-wife, was referred to the courthouse after his procedures at the police station. The suspect defended himself by saying, "I regret it, she wouldn't let me see my child." The woman, who was set on fire, was taken to the hospital.
A dispute broke out between Pınar Z. (36) and her ex-husband Gürhan Ü. (42) in the garden of an apartment building on İsmet Gökçen Street in the Şirinyalı neighborhood.
As the argument escalated, Gürhan Ü. poured gasoline, which he reportedly brought with him in a bucket, over Pınar Z. and set her on fire.
The woman, who suffered burns over a large part of her body, was taken to the Burn Unit of Akdeniz University Hospital.
Gürhan Ü., who fled the scene on his motorcycle, was captured in the vicinity of a school in the Yeşilbahçe neighborhood following a search operation launched by police teams in the area.
It was learned that in his initial statement at the police station, Gürhan Ü. said that he argued with his ex-wife because she would not let him see his child, and that the incident happened suddenly and was not planned.
Police teams conducted an investigation at the scene.
Meanwhile, the incident was recorded by a security camera at a nearby business.
The footage shows a local shopkeeper rushing to help the woman who had caught fire and intervening with a fire extinguisher.
Shopkeeper Mesut Avgın, who intervened with a fire extinguisher, told reporters that he heard the sound of an argument while he was organizing his shop's shelves in the morning.
Stating that he looked at the people arguing and saw the woman suddenly catch fire, Avgın said, "Then I grabbed the fire extinguisher and ran to the woman. I performed the first intervention. The woman's entire body was burned, she was in a very bad condition. May God not let anyone experience this. The man who did it got on his motorcycle and fled. I hope he gets his punishment."
Gürhan Ü., whose procedures at the police station were completed, was referred to the courthouse after a health check.
During this time, when asked by reporters "why he burned the woman," Gürhan Ü. replied, "I regret it, she didn't show me my child."
