Words from Zekeriya Yapıcıoğlu that will anger Erdoğan: 'It should have been implemented better...'

Zekeriya Yapıcıoğlu, Chairman of the Free Cause Party (HÜDA PAR), which is known for its proximity to Hezbollah and is a partner in the People's Alliance, made statements regarding the current agenda.

According to ANKA, Yapıcıoğlu, who called for a return to the parliamentary system, stated that the presidential government system is not functioning in practice as it is on paper, adding, "If it were me, I could even present a proposal for a return to the parliamentary system, saying, 'Go ahead, let's return.'"

Emphasizing that the possibility of an early election under current conditions is low, Yapıcıoğlu noted that the opposition does not have the majority required to force such a decision.

"THE OPPOSITION DOES NOT HAVE A PARLIAMENTARY MAJORITY"

Evaluating the current political equation, Yapıcıoğlu said, "Under today's conditions, an early election seems difficult. For such a decision to emerge from Parliament, the opposition needs to have a sufficient number of deputies, but there is no such majority at the moment. Unless a crack forms within the ruling front, it is not possible for an early election decision to be made."

"IF IT WERE ME, I WOULD BRING A PROPOSAL"

Touching upon the debates regarding the parliamentary system, Yapıcıoğlu presented a remarkable scenario.

Yapıcıoğlu said, "A proposal could even come from the AK Party saying, 'Come on, let's return to the parliamentary system.'" When asked if there is a possible split within the government, he replied, "I don't know. If there is, we have no information about it. They do not appear to have any cracks from the outside at the moment."

Referring to Mümtazer Türköne's recent statements, Yapıcıoğlu stated that everything is possible in politics. "Developments like Mr. Bahçeli's surprise move before the 2002 early election have happened in the past. Politics changes shape over time. Things that are said to be impossible today could become reality tomorrow," he said.

"THE PRESIDENTIAL SYSTEM IS NOT BEING IMPLEMENTED AS IT IS ON PAPER"

Evaluating the current Presidential Government System and pointing to the difficulties experienced in practice, Yapıcıoğlu said, "The system is very different on paper, but in practice, it does not quite fit this line. Especially regarding the separation of powers, although a clear structure is envisioned in theory, this separation is not clear in practice. It should have been implemented better."

Stating that the presidential system is actually based on a strong separation of powers, Yapıcıoğlu said, "Parliament only undertakes the legislative duty, while the executive is directly elected by the people. When you look at it from this perspective, the powers are separated by clear lines. But this does not find its reflection in practice."

"NO SYSTEM IS PERFECT"

Leaving the door open to a question about a system change, Yapıcıoğlu assessed, "The current system can of course be revised, and even a return to the parliamentary system is possible. We have said this from the beginning. No management system is flawless. Each may have its weaknesses and shortcomings. The important thing is to minimize these weaknesses and establish a fair and functioning structure."
