Anahtar Party Chairman Yavuz Ağıralioğlu reacted to Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek over the Turkish Statistical Institute's (TURKSTAT) July inflation data.

In a statement on his social media account, Ağıralioğlu recalled that TURKSTAT announced July inflation at 1.78 percent monthly and 31.75 percent annually. Opposing Şimşek's assessment that "disinflation continues despite challenging global and geopolitical conditions," Ağıralioğlu argued that this picture does not align with the economic reality experienced by citizens.

In his statement, Ağıralioğlu noted that inflation in Turkey is far above the averages of the European Union, the OECD, and various country groups, stating that the problem cannot be explained solely by global developments.

Criticizing the economic management for "wrong policies," Ağıralioğlu claimed that Turkey has become known for rent-seeking and uncertainty instead of production and predictability. Stating that "inflation is not destiny," Ağıralioğlu said the current situation is linked to political choices.

''Mr. Minister, you are talking about disinflation, while the nation is experiencing the high cost of living. You are looking at statistics, while the nation is looking at the receipt at the checkout. There is no success story here. What we have is a cost-of-living crisis that is deepening every day.''

Ağıralioğlu stated that citizens look at their market bags, the shrinking of their dinner tables, and the erosion of their salaries rather than official figures, adding that the economic management does not have a picture that would justify a "success story."
